WE INVEST IN OUR CUSTOMERS' CURRENT AND FUTURE NEEDS

The future will be built today. In the 2010s, we have invested heavily in developing our competitiveness. We have expanded and renovated our production and storage facilities to meet increasing demand and customer LEAN production requirements.

We have invested in our machine and equipment lineup for development of mould and plastic parts' production capability. To maintain our position as one of the leading manufacturers in Finland, we have renewed our EDM- and CNC-machining centers. To develop the injection molding process, a new mould cooling system has been built and nitrogen system for gas-assisted injection molding has been renewed. For flexible part handling, we have invested in so called “soft part robot“.

In summer 2017 our injection parts production capacity continued to grow thanks to the purchase of a new Engel Victory 160 injection molding machine.

We have also invested in know-how. From the beginning of 2017, we have used an even more advanced MoldFlow simulation program, which received a major update with additional features in early 2021. In the same early part of the year, we also purchased a deep hole drilling machine to achieve even better accuracy and speed for drilling cooling channels.

History 1991-2016

Back in the years 1982-1991, a company called Plastic Tool Oy operated in Kaarina, which was a tool unit of Saloplast Oy. Plastic Tool manufactured and serviced injection molds for mass production. As the economic cycles weakened in 1991, Saloplast decided to drive down the unit, at which point six of its employees stepped in and bought the company's business and Camteam Oy was founded. The name was invented when 3D and CAM were the essentials to the design process, and six friends (=team), were the entrepreneurs.

The first year went by while staying with the manufacturing of production moulds. In 1992 Camteam became involved in telecommunication business by producing injection molded mobile phone prototype parts for both Nokia, and Benefon. It can be said that almost all of the 1990s mobile phone plastic parts designed in Salo, Tampere and Oulu, were manufactured in Camteam. This formed almost 90% of the company’s sales. Over 100 prototype moulds were manufactured in the best years.

In the 1990s, the demand of small batches started to rise, as many large competing injection mould companies were not interested in them. Camteam gathered a broad customer base and as the operations expanded, the lack of space started to slow the production rates and new facilities had to be taken into account. In 1997, the current property and its plot were found on Rakentajantie, extensive renovations were carried out, and the same year we got the premises into use.

The whole '90s was a powerful period of growth for Camteam. This was the period during which mobile phones began to use 2-component plastic parts. Without any hesitation, Camteam joined this evolution and in 1998 the company acquired the first 2-component injection molding machine. Since then, the company has invested more in this technology and as soon as in 2001, a 3-component injection machine was already used for production.

Today, Camteam is one of Finland's leading multicomponent experts. The company has almost 30 years of experience in the field. More than 150 multicomponent plastics have been manufactured. At this point, there are about 50 different multicomponent plastic parts in production. In 2010, a large 400 tn 2-component injection molding machine was purchased and the manufacture of large technical cases was started.

Most of Camteam´s customers are world class companies. We work with brands like GE Healthcare, KaVo Kerr, Vaisala, Mirion, Planmeca, Polar Electro, Fiskars, Ensto , Nordic ID, Jabil Circuit etc. Most parts made by us end up overseas.

Camteam has made significant investments to improve product development capabilities. For example, the company acquired Autodesk® Moldflow® software, which is being used to analyse the geometries of a plastic part and simulate its manufacturability and mold functionality in advance. In addition, Camteam has acquired modern and powerful Siemens NX design software. With these tools, Camteam is able to serve its customers even better than ever before. In mould manufacturing, the machine base has been kept up to date and the machinery lineup scaled up, because of nowadays the biggest moulds are the size of a small refrigerator and weigh several tons.

As a contract manufacturer, the need of own warehouse became topical and in 2015 the factory was expanded. An additional 500 square metres of new storage space was made. At the same time, the old production facilities were renovated. ''Varsinais-Suomen Yrittäjät'' chose Camteam as a ''Entrepreneur of the Year 2015'' in Kaarina.

In 2016 machinery was improved again and a new 160 ton Engel injection molding machine was ordered. Camteam's success is backed by highly skilled and committed personnel. Most of which have been in the industry throughout their working careers. Thus, the combined experience time is several hundred years.
